PURPOSE:To inhibit the permeation of gas into a liq. crystal display element by using plastic film substrates each having <=15cc/m<2>/24hr/1atm./20 deg.C oxygen permeability when a plastic film type liq. crystal display element is manufactured. CONSTITUTION:A gas barrier layer of polyvinylidene chloride having about 5mum thickness is formed on a polyether sulfone film having about 100mum thickness represented by the formula to obtain a plastic film substrate 14 having 10cc/m<2>/24hr/1atm./20 deg.C oxygen permeability. A liq. crystal display element is composed of polarizing plates 11, barrier layers 12, anchor layers 13, plastic film substrates 14, anchor layers 15, transparent electrodes 16, orienting films 17, a sealant 18 and a liq. crystal 19. The permeation of gas into the liq. crystal display element is inhibited, and the generation of bubbles can be prevented even when the element is pressed by external force or receives a thermal shock. |
