<p>This invention relates to the production of alpha-tocopherol from non-alpha-tocopherol homologues by contacting the non-alpha-tocopherol homologue with an alkylation agent such as methanol, formaldehyde, or dimethyl ether for a sufficient length of time at a temperature in the range of from about 300 DEG Centigrade to about 550 DEG C in the presence of an alkylation catalyst. Methylation will occur in a substantial amount, producing alpha-tocopherol.</p> |
