Sodium sulphite-containing waste liquors, e.g. black liquors from the pulp industry, are contacted with pressurised carbon dioxide to form sodium bicarbonate, which is precipitated, and separated. Sodium carbonate and carbon dioxide are recovered therefrom. The bisulphite- containing liquor which is also formed is boiled to release sulphur dioxide for reuse in the pulping process.
|
