Aldehydes prodn by oxo synthesis - using recycling of cobalt catalyst and accelerator

Aldehydes are prepd. by the oxo-synthesis by reaction of olefins with CO and H2 at elevated temp. and press. in the presence of cobalt carbonyl complexes and N-methyl pyrrolidone. The N-methyl pyrrolidone-contg. reaction mixt. is treated at 110 - 180 degrees C immediately after prodn. with an aqs. soln. of lower fatty acids and O2 contg-gases. The aq. fatty acid, cobalt and N-methyl pyrrolidone contg. soln. is sepd. and recycled. The aldehydes are used for making plasticizers for high polymers.
