Nickel copper and/or cobalt recovery - from ores contg them with a minor amt of iron

Method of recovery of =1 of Ni, Co, Cu from materials contg. their oxides and appreciable amts. of Fe characterised in that the material contg. them is selectively reduced to metal in such a manner as to leave the bulk of the iron behind, by passing gaseous chlorine into an aqs. medium contg. the reduced material. The material is first reduced by roasting to convert sulphides and arsenides into oxides, and the bulk of the iron oxide is not attacked by the Cl2 gas. The reaction is simpler and more readily adaptable to different working conditions than prior artreactions.
