PURPOSE:To provide the titled agent containing the zinc complex compound in oyster meat as an active component, effective to increase the lithium concentration in cerebral tissue without causing hepatic disorder, and useful as a preventive and remedy for metal disorder to which lithium is effective. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent for increasing lithium concentration can be prepared by using the complex compound existing in oyster meat, composed of taurine and peptide and having metallic zinc as the center atom, as an active component. The complex compound has the following characteristics. 1) Molecu lar weight, 1,000-5,000 (gel-filtration by sephadex); 2) peptide-constituting components, glycine, alanine, glutamic acid, gamma -aminobutyric acid and zinc; 3) positive to ninhydrin reaction; 4) soluble in water; 5) UV absorption, absorp tion peak at 270-280nm. The agent of the present invention has extremely high safety in contrast with lithium carbonate used as conventional lithium- increasing agent which is liable to cause the hepatic disorder. Since the agent increases the lithium concentration in the cerebral tissue, it is useful as a preven tive and remedy for mental disorder such as manic-depressive psychosis. |
