DRUM TYPE CONTINUOUS CASTING METHOD

PURPOSE:To change the dividing width of a slab without stopping the operation and to obtain desired products by utilizing laser beams or high-speed water jets to a cutter for the continuously cast slab. CONSTITUTION:Laser beams are emitted from laser units 8 to the slab 3 cooled by a drum 1 to cut continuously the slab 3. Plural pieces of the units 8 are installed and are moved along a guide rail 9. The cut products 6 and ends 7 are discretely taken up after press rolls 10. The units 8 are moved along the rail 9 during the casting operation in the stage of changing the width of the products 6. This method includes the case in which the high-pressure water jets are used in place of the laser beams. The width of the products can be changed inline as desired during the casting operation according to the above-mentioned method, by which high productivity and high yield are realized.
