PURPOSE:To provide an antibiotic substance having antitumor activity and excellent antibacterial activity, by culturing a specific antibiotic substance- producing strain belonging to Streptomyces genus, and separating the objective antibiotic substance from the cultured product. CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain capable of producing an antibiotic substance SS21020A and belonging to Streptomyces genus is cultured and the objective antibiotic substance SS21020A is separated from the cultured product. The SS21020A substance-producing strain has been deposited in the Fermentation Research Institute in the name of Streptomyces sp. S2120 (FERM-P No.7798). The culture is preferably carried out in liquid medium, especially by deep agitation technique, under aerobic condition at 25-30 deg.C, preferably about 27 deg.C. The production of the antibiotic substance SS21020A reaches the peak after 3-7 days either by shake cultivation or deep agitation cultivation. |
