Elimination of polychlorobiphenyls (I) or their degradation prods. from electrical equipments or other devices contg. them, comprises treating the parts of the equipment covered with (I) residues with a chlorinated and/or fluorinated deriv. (II) of ethane which is liq. at room temp. Pref. (I) is used together with a liq. aliphatic hydrocarbon contg. at least 5C, pref. 5-20C. Also claimed is a compsn. for the process, contg. (I) and pref. also (II).
