PURPOSE:To prevent leakage of electrolyte caused by electric capillary action by forming a conductive carbon film with high degree of both water-repellence and hydrogen overvoltage upon the surfaces of a negative polar case in contact with a negative polar active material and electrolyte respectively. CONSTITUTION:A positive polar case 1 is filled with a positive polar active material 2 consisting of silver oxide as chief component, on which a separator 6 and electrolyte holding film 7 are placed. On the inner surface of a negative polar case 3, a conductive carbon film 4 with high degree of both water- repellence and hydrogen overvoltage is formed 0.01-0.2mm in thickness, less that 10OMEGA.cm in conductivity, and less than 20% in porosity, impermeable to electrolyte, and then said negative polar case is filled with a negative polar active material 5 consisting of zinc amalgamate as chief component. Both cases are sealed with a gasket 8 to make an enclosed alkaline cell. Hence, this constitution prevents electrolyte from leaking, caused by electric capillary action, through the surface between the negative case and negative polar active material at the negative electrode, where leakage-resistance can be improved. |
