PURPOSE:To effect a quantitative analysis of U at high sensitivity and precision, by irradiating neutrons to an analyzing specimen containing an unknown quantity of U and the standard specimen containing a known quantity of U and after an under- equivalent chemical separation of Ba-140, a radioactivity measurement is conducted for comparison. CONSTITUTION:Neutrons are irradiated to an analysis specimen containing an unknown quantity of U and to the standard test material containing a known quantity of U and non-radioactive Ba-carrier and La carrier are added to each test material and each test material solution is adjusted. Next, by addition of aqueous solution of sodium carbonate, precipitation is allowed as barium carbonate for centrifugal separation and resolution in diluted hydrochloric acid and next, by addition of enter, hydrochloric acid testing agent the material is subjected to the centrifugal separation as barium chloride. By addition of under-equivalent sodium sulfate to the barium chlorine precipi tation, a radioactive product Ba-140 is precipitated as barium sulfate for centrifugal separation. By measurements and comparisons of radioactivities of thus obtained standard test material and the analysis specimen Ba-140 or that of the daughter nuclide La-140, a quantity of U contained in the analysis specimen is measured in a quantita tive manner. |
