The invention relates to a glue-coating process for labels in labelling machines, with a conveyor band carrying and conveying the containers, for example bottles or the like, to be labelled, with a label magazine stacking the labels removably, and with a glue-coating station feeding glue to the outside of the containers, a narrow glue strip being applied to the outside of the container in a controlled manner as a result of the forward movement of the container, this glue strip subsequently being brought, in the region of the label magazine, into contact with the label to be applied, the container to be labelled being set in rotation about its own axis at this moment at the latest, a glue strip being applied in the region of the edge of the label to be applied which is at the rear as seen in the conveying direction, and the container, as a result of its rotational movement, removing from the label magazine the label which is then fixed to the container by means of the two glue strips.
