The melting-on process of the straps and terminals onto the current-carrying lugs, which proceeds, according to the cast-on straps (COS) principle, in a casting mould 1 designed as a two-cavity die, is terminated, in view of possible differences of the lug thicknesses in the positive and negative plate group halves, by differential cooling. After simultaneous lifting of the cooling vessels 6, 7 against the moulds into a first position, at a cooling water level a, has first caused both terminals to solidify, cooling is continued at the cooling water level b, using a timer-controlled lead time in favour of the strap type which has the thinner lugs attached to it (in this case, for example, the negative type), so that the thicker lugs of the positive plate group half are exposed to the molten lead in accordance with their greater heat requirement. <IMAGE>
