Compounds of the formula:- <CHEM> wherein R1 is H, alkyl, NO2, CN, CO2H, or various acyl or ester groups: R2 is H or alkyl; R3 is H, alkyl, Cl or Br; R4 is H, alkyl, cyanoethyl, cycloalkyl, benzyl, substituted phenyl, or various acyl; ester or amide groups; R9 is H, CH3 or OCH3; R10 is <CHEM> wherein X is CH3 or OCH3; Y and Y<1> are H, Cl or various organic groups; Z is CH, N, CCH3, CCH2CH3, CCH2CH2Cl, CCl, CBr or CF; and their agriculturally suitable salts; exhibit herbicidal activity. Some can be used as plant growth regulants. The compounds can be formulated for use in conventional manner. The compounds (Ic) and (Ib) can be made by reacting <CHEM> The compounds of formula (III) are also novel; these may be made by reacting chlorosulfonyl isocyanate with the appropriate heterocyclic amine R9R10NH. |
