<p>A capillary tube, 1 mm in dia., and esp. wound in a spiral is filled, batchwise, with carrier particles whose dia. is between 80-300 mu but with a max. spread of 25 mu, and these are then coated or impregnated in batches, progressively, under pressure with a stationary phase liquid. Whilst the pressure is applied (e.g. 1-2 kg/cm2 per metre length) the other end of the column is closed by a porous plug and the column is exposed to ultrasonic vibrations. As an alternative to compressed gas, a vacuum of 10-20 Torr may be applied to the other end of the column using a water jet vacuum pump. Higher band width without loss of efficiency is obtd.</p> |
