Linear di:methylamino-benzoylated polymers

The polymers are obtd. by (a) reacting polystyrene or other polymer with aromatic gps. as lateral substits. with an isocyanate in presence of a Friedel-Craft catalyst, e.g. AlCl3 or BF3 at 25-80 deg.C for 10 hrs. to form a polymer with phenylamide gps.; and (b) treating this linear, soluble polymer amide with dimethyl aniline in presence of POCl3 at 50-100 deg.C for 50-80 hrs.
