<p>The vacuum chamber of an electron beam welding installation is connected to its vacuum pumps by pipes which include means for trapping particles which might damage the pumps. The trapping means in Fig. 2 comprises a two-part housing, an inlet 17, an outlet 20 and a filter 27. In Fig. 3, not shown, the trapping means comprises baffles which divert particles into a lateral extension of the pipe.
