Dyes corresponding to general formula (I) are released imagewise from corresponding dye-releasers in the dye diffusion transfer process. They react with nickel ions to form lightfast, cyan dye-metal complexes having advantageous spectral properties: <IMAGE> (I) wherein Q represents the group required for completing an optionally substituted phenyl or naphthyl group; X represents -S-, -SO2-, -SO2-NR DEG - or -SO2-O-; R DEG represents H or alkyl; and R1 represents an aliphatic, araliphatic or a carbocyclic or heterocyclic aromatic group or, when X represents -SO2-NR DEG -, R1 represents hydrogen.
