PURPOSE:To reduce the tension of a metallic strip at its edge part and to prevent its breakage due to edge cracks by arranging a pair of one-side tapered rolls parallelly to each other while distributing their taper ends to mutually opposite sides and providing a tension to the strip by locating its both edge-parts at both taper-parts of the rolls respectively. CONSTITUTION:A tension is provided to the central part of a metallic strip 3 uniformly in its width direction by the flat parts 1b, 2b of rolls. And each tension at both edge parts 3a, 3a of the strip 3 is gradually decreased toward its each end to a lower tension as compared with a tension to the central part, to prevent the strip 3 from breaking from its edge part. Further, each of the lengths delta of roll taper parts 1a, 2a with which both edge parts of the strip 3 are in contact, can be always set to the optimum value even when the width of metallic strip 3 is changed, by sliding a pair of the one-side tapered rolls 1, 1 mutually oppositely in the roll-axis directions in conformity with the width of strip 3. |
