The apparatus is a slag submerged remelting furnace or an are vacuum furnace. Four single-phase supply circuits are so connected to the electrodes with alternate phase differences of 180, 90, 180 and 90 degrees, that there is no rotation of the metal bath, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown).
