PURPOSE:To prevent distortion of a seal ring by providing a plate ring brought into contact with the seal ring at the outer peripheral portion extending in the axial direction over the whole periphery to receive the force applied upon the seal ring through the plate ring. CONSTITUTION:A plate ring 30 is fitted to the outer periphery of a seal ring 9, and brought into the shoulder portion of the seal ring 9 extending from the axial seat ring 4 side over the whole periphery. After assembling a unit 32, if the unit is not installed to a rotary shaft 2, but left as it is for a long time, the seal ring 9 is forced to axially separate from metal fittings 12 by the urging force of a spring 17, so that load produced by the urging force of the coiled spring 17 works upon the plate ring 30 engaged with the forward end portion 14a of a finger 14 of the metal fittings 12. Since the plate ring 30 has high rigidity, however, the load is dispersed and transmitted to the seal ring equally extending over the axial whole periphery. |
