PURPOSE:To reduce the consumption of surface of an electrode and to enhance the accuracy of machining, by forming several holes in the electrode, which communicate with the outer surface of the electrode, and by oozing out gas or liquid containing therein hydrocarbon from the inside of the electrode while pulse-arc-discharge is made across the gap between a workpiece and the electrode. CONSTITUTION:Several air pores are formed in an electric discharge electrode 1 by use of a thin hole machining process, etc. so that the pores are communicated with the outer surface of the electrode 1. Gas, liquid or mixture thereof, containing therein hydrocarbon is fed into a blind hole 2 formed in the electrode by a pressurizing pump 4 and is oozed out from the outer surface of the electrode. Further, working liquid is jetted from a jet hole 6. A pulse voltage is applied across the gap between the electrode 1 and a workpiece facing to the electrode 1 to carry out an electric discharge machining. Since hydrocarbon is always present, the consumption of surface of the electrode 1 may be prevented. |
