The optical brighteners, for use in compsns. contng. per-cpds. and at least one activator for these, with an activation value of >=3, selected from N-acyl and O-acyl cpds., carbonate and pyrocarbonate esters, consist of combinations of (A) and (B) in molar ratios of 10:1 to 1:5. (A) is D - CH = CH - D where D is and (B) is: (M is Na or K). The brighteners are stable to oxidation in storage and reduce green discoloration of cellulose textiles after repeated use.
