1358793 Tobacco compositions; tobaccosmoke filters E W MERRILL 14 Jan 1972 [18 Jan 1971] 1781/72 Heading A2C [Also in Division C3] An absorbent for polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons from tobacco smoke comprises a heat resistant composition comprising silicone rubber and an alkali metal borate hydrate, preferably borax, intimately admixed, with the borate retained within the silicone rubber, the water of hydration being retained, the amount of borate being sufficient to render the composition resistant to the heatof burning tobacco. The amount of borate is preferably from 50-80% wt of the composition. The absorbent in comminuted form can be mixed with tobacco for use in cigarettes, pipes or cigars, or it can be used in a cigarette filter. |
