Cpds. (I):- (where R1 is H, halogen, nitro, or 1-6C alkyl, or -alkoxy and R2 is 1-6C alkyl) are prepd. by isomerisation of a 2-alkoxy-5-phenyl-5H-1,4-benzodiazepine or by one stage dehydration and isomerisation of a 2-alkoxy-4-hydroxy-5-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-3H-1,4-benzodiazepene. Thus (I, R1 = 7 Cl, R2 = Me) is prepd. by refluxing 7-chloro-2-methoxy-4-hydroxy-5-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-3H-1,4-benzodia- zepine with dimethylpiperazine. |
