PURPOSE:To stably feed a sheet by setting the travel of a sheet feed roller to a position corresponding to the width of a document through a control circuit according to a signal detecting the width of a document to be fed and moving the sheet feed roller according to a signal of the travel. CONSTITUTION:Documents 1a, 1b of the minimum width and the maximum width are placed on a sheet feed table 2, with the respective one ends thereof brought into a reference surface. In this case, there are provided a plurality of detectors 17 on the opposite side end of the surfaces 3 of the placed documents 1a, 1b. Accordingly, the number of the detectors 17 for detecting the existence of a document is determined by the width of the document, and according to the number of detection signals, a motor 15 is rotated normally and reversely through a control circuit. A holder 9 is moved to the left or to the right on a shaft 10 by the distance corresponding to the number of detection signals through a reversing roller 14 and a wire 16. Thus, a sheet feed roller 12 can be automatically located at a proper position corresponding to the width of a document 1 to stably feed the document. |
