Condensate controlled dephlegnating distillation - particularly for condensation reactions leading to poly-esters or amides

Reagent losses with condensation reaction, partic. preparation of poly- esters and amides, caused by their being carried over with reaction water being distilled off and by the effect of the iner gas flow, are minimised by passing the vapour quantity condensed in a main condenser through >=1 heat exchanger connected in parallel, or pref. in series to the main condenser, so effecting precisely self-controlled dephlegmating in relation to the distillate quantity produced by the reaction at any time. The condensate level in such heat exchanger may be arranged to equal the height of such condensate collected in the drip space of the main condenser.
