In a method for fixing a fabric web with a hot treatment agent under high pressure in a moist and hot atmosphere, the fabric web is guided, by means of a conveyor grasping its edges and exerting a transverse tension and an accelerating roller arranged on the feed side of the conveyor, through a steamer having a moist and hot high-pressure atmosphere and a temperature of approximately 150 DEG C and is at the same time repeatedly subjected to a treatment agent having a temperature of approximately 150 DEG C.
