A rotor for an exhaust turbocharger for vehicles with a turbine wheel and a compressor wheel connected to this by way of a shaft is described, the compressor wheel (2) being composed of a metal material and at least the turbine wheel of a ceramic material. In order to make a simple and inexpensive connection between the ceramic and the metal components it is proposed that the shaft (1) also be made in one piece from a ceramic material and that means be provided for making an indirect frictional contact and, where necessary, also a positive connection between the shaft (1) and the compressor wheel (2) fitted onto the shaft. At the same time, the shaft and the turbine wheel may comprise a ceramic component manufactured in one piece or the shaft and the turbine wheel are each manufactured separately from a ceramic material and joined by means of a ceramic joining process. <IMAGE>
