The term "burner" here refers to a fuel feeding and combustion apparatus which can be installed as auxiliary equipment in combination with a furnace. The burner (1) comprises the combustion chamber (7), the grate (8) placed at the bottom of the combustion chamber and the ash pit (9) located below the grate. The combustion chamber is provided with an automatic fuel feeder (4) which is connected thereto by means of a fuel inlet shaft or the like. The object of the invention is to achieve an improvement in solid fuel burners and their feeders and to realize a burner, the output whereof can be adjusted within a wide range and fairly quickly, and which burner has remarkably longer maintenance periods than the conventional solid fuel burners. According to the invention, the burner (1) is a separate unit which can be externally installed in combination to a furnace or a furnace assembly. The fuel feeder (4) is connected to the burner (1) by means of an inclined fuel inlet shaft (6) and the feeder (4) is provided with a regulation means which regulates the scattering of the fuel in a continuous flow of a desired volume into the combustion chamber (7). The inclined fuel inlet shaft (6) is connected to the grate (8) which is preferably of the same width as the fuel inlet shaft. The combustion chamber (7) is provided with the blower (11) which is employed for blowing the necessary combustion air into the combustion chamber as a flow of a desired volume.
