<p>A method of discharging a pulverulent and granular substance from a hermetic vertical cooling furnace. From the lower region of the cooling chamber of a cooling furnace (12) for cooling a pulverulent and granular substance, such as red-hot coke, the substance which has been cooled is continuously and quantitatively supplied in an atmosphere sealed off from the ambient atmosphere and is stored in each of the container parts provided in a rotor (13) of a rotary valve (11) to such an extent that each container parts is not fully filled with the substance, and the substance is discharged into the ambient atmosphere by rotating the rotor (13). Also disclosed is an apparatus suitably used in the above-described method.</p> |
