Process for enhancing the radionuclide retention properties of solidified radioactive wastes

The object of the process is to solidify radioactive wastes of various origins in such a manner, or solidify them in a matrix of such a type, that the retention properties of the solidified blocks or shaped bodies etc., i.e. of the solidification products to be held in ultimate storage, for the incorporated radionuclides, especially for caesium-137, are considerably enhanced. This is achieved by employing as additives natural weathering products of organic rocks having a total content of CaO + MgO up to at most 6.5% by weight and a mineral acid-insoluble residue below 50% by weight, in admixture to the aqueous waste and/or the binder in an amount between 1% by weight and 60% by weight of the binder used.
