Current collector for third rail

In a current collector for electrically operated vehicles with power supply via a third rail (current rail), in which an outer force, preferably spring force, supplies the necessary contact pressure of the contact element against the third rail, the contact pressure of the contact element or of the current collector is to be appropriately matched to the travelling conditions in order to reduce the wear. For this purpose, it is proposed according to the invention that the spring force be designed for a basic contact pressure in currentless or low-current operation and that a current-dependent additional contact pressure be superimposed on this basic contact pressure in current-intensive operation. Expediently, the basic contact pressure here is for drawing current during continuous travel and the maximum additional contact pressure is for drawing current during starting up or regenerative braking.
