The invention relates to a catheter for the urinary bladder which comprises an elongate shaft (12) having an inner channel (14) for drainage, the distal end (18) of which merges into a helical or annular pipe piece (16) with several passage openings connected to the inner channel (14), another channel (38) for the supply of an expansion medium being provided along the shaft (12), an elastic cuff being furthermore fixed on the shaft in annular zones (24, 26) located at a distance from one another in proximal position to the helical or annular pipe piece (16), so that a cavity (28) communicating with the other channel (38) is formed under the cuff. <IMAGE>
