<p>A single-chip solid-state color image sensor having an array (12) of color filters employed with a solid-state image sensing chip to define an array of luminance sensing elements (38) interspersed with chrominance sensing elements R and B is characterized by the luminance sensing elements comprising 75% of the sensing elements of the chip, and each chrominance sampling element R or B being totally surrounded by luminance sampling elements (38). The sensor is associated with signal processing means for providing interpolated values between chrominance sample values by interpolating hue values. The resulting image sensor has improved resolution with no noticeable loss in color quality. The invention is useful in electronic imaging apparatus such as solid-state video cameras.</p> |
