<p>A button assembly for controlling the discharge of fluid from a pressurised container having a displaceable valve actuating member which when moved relative to the container in at least one predetermined direction opens a valve in a discharge passage communicating with the interior of the container and its surroundings. The button assembly is permanently secured to the container, and a manually movable actuator (10) forming part of the assembly is movable relative to the container from a first position to a second position so as to displace the valve actuating member (13) and thereby connect the discharge passage to the surroundings. The actuator is automatically returned to the first position when the button assembly is released. The actuator defines surfaces (20) which interengage with surfaces (19) of the remainder of the button assembly such that movement of the actuator from the first to the second position requires relative movement between the portions of the button assembly defining the said surfaces in at least two mutually inclined directions. Actuation can require sequential twisting and pressing movements, or push and press movements, or lift and push movements for example.</p> |
