The invention relates to a thermoelectric cooling installation, for the continuous operation of which a power supply which is available only periodically or irregularly is adequate. As a result of a combination of thermal valves, heat or cold accumulators and Peltier elements, a reduction of the electrical energy requirement can be achieved at the same time. The preferred application lies in mains-independent operation under difficult climatic and maintenance conditions, such as for example the cooling of inoculation serums in remote hospital stations in tropical and subtropical countries, using solar cells.
