This process is used for simultaneously cracking naphtha and a heavy hydrocarbon feedstock having a final boiling point of at least 500 DEG C. The cracked gases are quenched with an oil and mixed after quenching. A liquid fraction is separated off from the resulting cracked gas mixture and used as quench oil for the cracked gas from the heavy hydrocarbon feedstock. The cracked gas mixture remaining after the heavy liquid fraction has been separated off is fed to a first fractionation, from which a bottom fraction is taken off and used as quench oil for the naphtha cracked gas. <IMAGE>
