The invention relates to a process and apparatus for the production of spinning fibres which are spun, folded and collectively drawn, preferably continuously as filament threads (1), in a fibre line. The drawn filament tow (9) is crimped in a compression chamber and is thereafter cut in a fibre cutter (18) to form spinning fibres (19). An improvement in the textile fibre properties is obtained by crimping the filament tow (9) in a blowing nozzle (12) with a connected compression tube and a thermal aftertreatment device (15) for the thread plug formed. Because of their three-dimensional crimping of the filament threads (1), the spinning fibres (19) have excellent crimping characteristics and, when the spun yarns are processed to form a plane sheet-like structure, have an increased covering capacity as a result of their greater bunching. For the processing of high linear densities of over 5000 to 120000 dtex of the filament tows (9) and a uniform compression crimping by the working fluid, for example hot air, at relatively low working speeds of between 50 and 300 m/min, the blowing nozzle (12) is specially designed and possesses a special suction funnel and modified flow paths for the supply of the working fluid. <IMAGE>
