A robot with a vertically adjustable and rotatable gripper (1) having several gripping tools (2) is provided for assembling equipment and units from individual parts (13 to 20). During assembly, the parts (13 to 20) are picked up one after the other with this gripper and are taken together to the assembly point (12) and are delivered there one after the other and assembled. In a simple construction of the robot, efficient, quick assembly is possible here in a small space. <IMAGE>
