A method for SZ stranding of optical-fibre cables is specified, in which the number of lays in the two directions of rotation is continuously varied during stranding. This results in different spacings (A1-A3) between the regions of change in twist. The individual optical fibres are thus located in the regions of change in twist at different points, so that the risk of overextensions is avoided. <IMAGE>
