A ball joint is for connecting a platform to a foundation anchored on the sea-bed. It has an upper, outer and lower, carrier port-spherical shells and has downwardly open air or gas-filled bell that encompasses the lower shell, and with an annular seal bearing against the lower shell. Arranged in the lower shell are sliding shoes which have curved carrier plates having trapezuim-shaped peripheries, and side layers fixed to the carrier plates and sliding on the inner surface of the surrounding upper shell, the side layers being encompassed on all sides by edge stri portions of the carrier plates. The carrier plates are provided along all sides with edge seals mounted in ede recesses. These seals bear against the inner surface of the upper shell. The functioning of the ball joint over a long period, e.g. 30 years, is achieved by providing the shells with improved protection of the sliding surfaces, by achieving and maintaining floating frictions and bv forming the sliding shoes to facilitate replacement.
