PURPOSE:To enable a printer to perform printing in both right and left directions in a thermal transfer printer by achieving the printing in two directions by two printing heads separately provided transferring ink ribbons in the reverse direction to the moving direction of the head. CONSTITUTION:Two sets of printing parts 15, 16 are provided on the carriage reciprocating toward right and left. Printing heads 17, 18 capable of advancing and retracting independently with regard to a platen 3, ink ribbon feeding reels 26, 27 and ink ribbon winding reels 20, 25, etc. are provided at each printing parts 15 and 16. When the carriage is moved in left direction, one printing part 15 is used, whereby the printing is achieved, and then the carriage is moved in right direction, another printing part 16 is used. Then, the ink ribbons 19, 24 are transferred in the reverse direction with regard to the moving direction of printing heads 17, 18. |
