PURPOSE:Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, aliphatic hydrocarbon and unsaturated carboxylic acid are melt-kneaded to give a modified polyethylene which has good stretchability and forms a stretched product showing good reinforcing action, high adhesion and high fibrilation resistance. CONSTITUTION:(A) 15-80pts.wt. of a polyethylene of ultrahigh-molecular-weight with an intrinsic viscosity of more than 5dl/g, (B) 85-20pts.wt. of an aliphatic hydrocarbon or its derivative melting over 10 deg.C and boiling over 130 deg.C, (C) more than 0.1pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. of component A, of unsaturated carboxylic acid such as acrylic or maleic acid or its derivative are melt-kneaded to give a modified polyethylene of more than 5dl/g intrinsic viscosity, more than 0.01wt% of component C grafted and substantially free from insoluble gel. |
