摘要 1298858 Laminating E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 24 April 1970 [6 June 1969] 3717/71 Divided out of 1298857 Headings B5K and B5N A process for heat-bonding an edge of a first thermoplastic resin body portion to an edge or surface of another thermoplastic resin body portion comprises advancing said first object along a path with its edge in contact with a heated release surface moving therewith to melt its edge, progressively removing said first body portion and thereby the molten edge from said release surface and progressively contacting said molten edge with said edge or said surface of said another body portion in sufficiently heated condition to cause heat-bonding at the location of said contact. The process of the invention may be used inter alia for the manufacture of laminates or tubes. An apparatus used in the process comprises means for advancing a first body portion of thermoplastic resin having an edge along a path, means for advancing a second body portion of thermoplastic resin along a path intersecting the first mentioned path to cause the edge of said first body portion and said second body portion to come progressively together, heated surface release means advancing in contact with said edge along the firstmentioned path to melt the edge and means for heating at least that portion of said second body portion which contacts the molten edge of said first body portion. In one embodiment, a structure 15 comprising a film 4 having ribs 6 and 8 integrally moulded therewith is fed from a reel 20 through a nip between hot roll 22 and guide roll 24 to melt the ribs and form flanges 10 thereon, the hot roll 22 being covered with a layer 26 of release material, the resultant structure with the flanges still molten being contacted on roll 38 with a layer 12 of thermoplastic resin continuously formed on the roll 38 by extrusion through die 40 and the resultant laminate passed through take-off rolls 52. In a further embodiment (Fig. 11), the ribs of a ribbed structure are contacted with a surface of a moving conveyer belt 76 made of a release material and heated by an electric heater 68 to melt the ribs and form molten flanges thereon prior to calendering the ribbed structure with a film 12 between rolls 78 and 80. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 12, a sheet 100 of thermoplastic resin is advanced along structure 102, the edges 104 and 106 of the sheet first each moving in contact with conveyer-like belts 108 and 110 heated by heaters 114 to form molten beads of resin along the said edges 104 and 106 and the sheet being passed whilst the beads are still molten into cylindrical forming tube 120 and around mandrel 124 to form a tube. In a further embodiment described with reference to Figs. 13 to 15 (not shown), tubular shapes formed of thermoplastic resin are bonded to thermoplastic resin sheeting.
