A spiro compd. (I), used as a pharmaceutical intermediate, is prepared from compd. (II) substituted with one or two functional gp. by reacting with m-chloro benzoic acid where: A = benzene ring substituted with 1 or 2 C1 - C4 lower alkyl sulfinyl or C1 - C4 lower alkyl sulfonyl; and B = benzene ring substituted with 1 or 2 C1 - C4 lower alkyl thio gp. The lower alkyl gp. is a methyl, ethyl, n- propyl, or iso-propyl gp. Dose is 1 -20 mg/kg body wt. daily orally.
