PURPOSE:To reduce the pressure change applied on the floating surface of floating head slider, to reduce the fluctuation range of minimum floating level and to improve the cosine angle characteristic by providing at least one groove across the confronted side rails for driving the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:Floating head slider 1 is provded with aligned grooves 9a, 9b perpendicularly to both of edges 2a, 2b and across both of the floating surfaces 3a, 3b to divide the floating surfaces into portions 3a, 3b and portions 11a, 11b. When the cosine angle theta of the floating head slider is zero, the compressed air jet fed from the taper portions 4a, 4b is expanded through grooves 9a, 9b and then arrives at outlet end 5a, 5b to nullify the pressure at grooves 9a, 9b and the air stream is compressed again through the floating surfaces 11a, 11b to reduce the length of continuously floating surface and to reduce correspondingly the transverse leakage of air stream due to the development of cosine angle, thereby making the local capacity of air film and pitching angle equal to values for theta=0 and reducing the fluctuation of minimum floating level to achieve favorable cosine angle characteristic. |
