PURPOSE:To enable a development with a small amount of a replenisher by allowing to exist at least one of silver halide emulsion layers on a surface of a base material and using a quaternary onium compd. having a water resisting property at an opposite side of the emulsion layer against the base material. CONSTITUTION:The quanternary onium compd. layer having the water resisting property exists in a back layer of the silver halide photosensitive material. The water resisting property means such a propery as not to elute the compd. into a treating liquor from the material. Namely, to give the water resisting property to the compd., it makes to increase a mol. wt. of the compd. and/or to introduce a hydrophobic group to the compd., thereby reducing an affinity for the treating liquor. As to the quanternary onium compd. having the water resisting property, the quanternary ammonium compd. having the water resisting property is the most preferable. The onium compd. is prepared by polymerizing two or more of the three compds. selected from a monomer belonging to vinylpyridine and its derivative, or a basic vinyl monomer, and primary-tertiary amines and a compd. having a haloalkyl group, and then changing an amino group contd. in the obtd. copolymer or the obtd. graft polymer to the quanternary amino group. |
