PURPOSE:To minimize the consumption of an electrode solution, by detecting variations in the pH value thereof in an electrode tank to exchange the electrode liquid according to the results of the detection. CONSTITUTION:A pair of electrode tanks 7 and 7 which are connected to a migration section 2 through a semi-permeable membrane body 9 are provided with a drain tank 11 and a storage tank 12 for storing an exchange electrode solution containing a pH indicator. As the pH value of the electrode solution in the respective electrode tanks 7 rises during the electrophoresis, the quantity of light of a photocell 18 of a measuring means 22 decreases while as the pH value of the electrode solution falls, the quantity of light increases. The signal of the photocell 18 is compared with a reference signal of a photocell 27 at a reference measuring section 24 and pH value variation information of the electrode solution is transmitted to a logical circuit 25. When the pH variation value is outside the reference range, a drain pump 15 is operated to exchange the electrode solution. In this manner, pH of the electrode solution in the respective tanks is detected to automatically exchange the electrode solution thereby minimizing the consumption of an exchanging electrode solution to be used. |
