摘要 PURPOSE:To realize an optical switch device of high speed and high integration by constituting it so that a spacer layer is provided on a substrate consisting of a material having excellent thermal conductivity, and a heating element electrode is provided through the second spacer layer on an optical guide formed on the upper part of said layer. CONSTITUTION:Refractive indexes of optical guides 2A, 2B are larger than that of the first spacer layer 5 and the second spacer layer 6 on a substrate 4, therefore, when an optical signal is made incident on the optical guide 2B from a laser diode LD, it goes straight on and is emitted from an optical guide 2Bo of an output side. However, when a heating element electrode 7 is conducted electrically, a cross part of the optical guides 2A, 2B is heated and the refractive index is varied, and the incident signal light is switched to the other optical guide 2Ao. When the electric conduction is stopped, the temperature of the cross part falls, and the course of the signal light is switched again to its original optical guide 2Bo side. In this way, radiation is executed quickly, therefore, the optical switch can be operated at a high speed, and even if it is provided adjacently, an influence on the adjacent optical switches is suppressed.
